Hello from Buenos Aires! We arrived here on Tuesday morning and kicked off the sightseeing that very afternoon with a trip to the beautiful cemetery where Eva Perón is buried. Then yesterday during the day we went to a gallery and to the shops in an area called Palermo Soho, which was very nice. And then last night I took the band and their lovely crew to a tourist Tango Show. We started with dinner served at the speed of lightning. You had to be careful your plates weren't taken away before you'd finished, the waiters were so fast! Dinner was followed by an hour of all-singing, all-dancing, ankle flicking, leg kicking, passion and romance. Excellent! We came away very much inspired by a true tradition of Argentina!It's been a great trip so far - everyone is very relaxed and enjoying themselves. Now we're all looking forward to the first show of the tour tomorrow night...

09:30am and we were sound-checking at the River Plate Stadium, getting ready for our first show of the tour. It was a lovely day but we are all getting eaten alive by Argentinean mosquitoes.

Off to Santiago, Chile next. See you there!

Wow! What a place to play our first show! We've had such a great time here in Buenos Aires. The show last night was just one of the most enjoyable nights we've had - we are so far from home, but feel so welcome. It's a shame to be leaving, but as Tom said, we'll be back. The noise of the crowd last night was something else - the reputation of the Latin American crowd for energy and enthusiasm is totally deserved, and the sight of thousands of people jumping up and down during IIAW will stay with me a long time.

EL VIERNES TOCARON EN EL QUILMES ROCK LOS LOCALES BABASONICOS Y LOS BRITANICOS DE KEANE
Noche pop de estrellas encendidas

Fueron los números fuertes de la segunda jornada del festival, que también contó con los aportes de Estelares, Arbol y Psychedelic Furs. Anoche actuaron Intoxicados y Los Piojos y hoy cierran a lo grande Aerosmith y Velvet Revolver.

Noche extraña la del viernes en el Quilmes Rock. La segunda jornada del festival multitudinario tenía como artistas convocantes a los argentinos Babasónicos y a los británicos de Keane. Si bien el grupo de Adrián Dárgelos cuenta con muchos seguidores, lo de los

ingleses era una incógnita: ¿cómo iba a responder el público local a una banda que sólo tiene dos discos y sin tanto "culto" alrededor?

Bueno, la respuesta se vió en una cancha repleta, con gran parte de los asistentes coreando -o al menos intentando- todos los temas, los más radiales, los más conocidos y, a la larga, sucumbiendo al encanto torpemente "british" del líder de Keane, Tom Chaplin.

EN PLENO ASCENSO

Las cosas habían comenzado hacía un largo rato, con Estelares, banda oriunda de La Plata y en ascenso constante. Fue con Arbol, con un campo a medio llenar, que los ánimos se elevaron un poco más, aunque el grupo de Haedo notó la ausencia de una de sus columnas vertebrales. Arbol tocó todos sus temas conocidos, desplegó energía y entretuvo a la gente. El cierre fue con una versión a capella de "La balsa" que, hay que decirlo, no tuvo el impacto que lograron haciendo lo mismo pero con el himno ricotero "Jijiji".

Luego llegó otro número internacional, los post punk Psychedelic Furs, una banda ajena para la mayoría de los que allí estaban y, por lo tanto, con un recibimiento un tanto gélido. Definitivamente, River les quedó algo grande y no serán pocos los que habrán deseado que antes que presentarse en el Quilmes Rock lo hubieran hecho en un teatro, con un número más acotado de público y posibilitando el contacto directo con sus fans argentinos, que los tiene.

Llegó entonces el turno de Dárgelos y compañía. Babasónicos tiene histrionismo escénico, tiene pasta para encantar multitudes. Pero su decisión de repasar sólo canciones recientes atenta contra la compenetración de su público. Que hubo seguidores suyos, los hubo. Que deliraron con las intervenciones de Dárgelos, lo hicieron. Sin embargo, algo faltó. Sobre todo, sonaron temas "Anoche", su último disco y de "Infame".

LA INCOGNITA

Promediando las once de la noche, entonces, fue el turno de Keane. Como se dijo, nadie sabía cómo iba a tratar el público a su propuesta musical. Aunque el hecho de que nadie se moviera de su lugar, fue signo de buen presagio. Por otra parte, no es que el trío conformado por Chaplin, Tim Rice-Oxley y Richard Hughes le tenga miedo a los desaf“os: suya fue la idea de hacer una banda de rock/pop intrumentada únicamente por piano/órgano y batería (y a veces bajo y, en una ocasión, guitarra). Arriesgada es su apuesta y levantan con creces los frutos, generando un fanatismo interesante, al ver cómo respondió la gente en River.

También hay que tener en cuenta que Chaplin se metió a todos en el bolsillo, buscando interactuar con sus fanáticos en cada ocasión posible. No habían pasado si quiera tres temas que ya había mencionado lo grato de sentirse en Buenos Aires como treinta veces. Así y todo, siguió el muchacho hablando de las bondades de la ciudad y hasta dedicándole una canción a Diego Maradona por su internación ("Try again").

Entre los demás temas que se escucharon figuraron "The iron sea", "Everybody"s changing", "We might as well be strangers", "Can"t stop now", "Bend and break", "This is the last time", "Somewhere only we know", "Is it any wonder?" y el cierre fue con "Bedshaped".

En definitiva, una jornada pop muy intensa y cargada de buenas vibraciones por parte de todos los involucrados, incluida, por supuesto, la gente.

Historia:

The Calling fue formado en Los Angeles, California. Integrada por Alex Band (vocal) y Aaron Kamin (guitarra) (quien salia con la hermana de Alex). Luego de su formacion, Band y Kamin firmaron contrato con la empresa RCA. A medida que la banda fue avanzando, Sean Woolstenhulme (guitarra), Billy Mohler (bajo) and Nate Wood (bateria) fueron incluidos como musicos extra, y el primer album de The Calling fue grabado. Lanzado en Mayo de 2001, Camino Palmero se convirtio en un exito, sumado a la fuerza de su single, "Wherever You Will Go". Band and Kamin (sin Wood, Woolstenhulme, y Mohler) volvieron en 2004 con Two, su segundo disco. En Junio de 2005 la banda se tomo un tiempo. Alex Band ha declarado a la prensa que tiene en mente un proyecto solista de que ya se conocen varios temas.
